  • The city was named after Pierre LeMoyne, Sieur d’ Iberville who was an explorer from France. He set foot in the town in 1699.
  • Even if the history started that early, it was only in incorporated after almost 300 years. It officially became a city in 1988. The residents helped one another for it to be incorporated to prevent further annexation of Biloxi. D’Iberville became the 11th city in the Gulf Coast and 295th in Mississippi.
  • Since it is a coastal area, the city has been susceptible to hurricanes. Hurricane Katrina which hit the area in 2005 was the last storm which devastated the town.
